Your Guide to Finding Your Teen a Bra - BRABAR

Your Guide to Finding Your Teen a Bra

Nothing is more awkward than taking your child for new bras.

I know from experience that moms and mom figures struggle with communicating with their teens about bras and breasts.

BRABAR is transparent about bra sizing and strives to simplify and standardize bra sizing in the industry.

Here’s a Quick Guide on how to find your teen daughters bras in their correct sizes!!!

How To Measure

Here’s a fun fact:  8 out of 10 women and girls are unaware of their correct bra size.  The big reason is that bra sizing is not standardized in the intimates industry.

Starting with old sizing methods still being employed when it is not as complicated as most people think.  The old Sizing methods include the Plus Four and the armpit method. Both provide the incorrect Band Size and that throws off the whole Bra Size because there is a correlation between your Band and Cup Size.

The correct Band Size is the key to finding your correct Bra Size. Your Band Size subtracted from your Overbust Measurement is how you get the Cup Size.

YOUR OVERBUST MEASUREMENT - YOUR BAND SIZE = YOUR CUP SIZE

Each inch is a cup size. The main issue is that many people shop by Cup Size. The Cup Size is determined by the difference between the Band Size and Overbust Measurement. If the band size were to change by either going up or down, the cup size would change. The constant is always the difference between the Band Size and Overbust Measurement.

Less Than a one-inch difference is an AA-Cup.

A one-inch (1) difference is an A-Cup.

A two-inch (2) difference is a B-Cup.

A three-inch (3) difference is a C-Cup.

A four-inch (4) difference is a D-Cup.

A five-inch (5) difference is a DD-Cup or an E-Cup.

A DD-Cup and an E-Cup are the same in US Sizing.

A six-inch (6) difference is a DDD-Cup or a F-Cup.  A DDD-Cup and an F-Cup are the same in US Sizing.

A seven-inch (7) difference is a DDDD-Cup or a G-Cup.  A DDDD-Cup and a G-Cup are the same in US Sizing.

OR

1 inch = A-Cup

2 inch = B-Cup

3 inch = C-Cup

4 inch = D-Cup

5 inch = DD-Cup or E-Cup

6 inch = DDD-Cup or F-Cup

7 inch = DDDD-Cup or G-Cup

An Example:

You measure 36 around your underbust/ribcage, which means your Band is 36.  You measure 42 around your overbust.  It is a four-inch difference between your bust and band so you are a 36D.

No two D-Cups are the same!

You measure 28 around your underbust/ribcage, which means your Band is 28.  You measure 32 around your overbust.  It is a four-inch difference between your bust and band so you are a 28D.

Do you see what is the constant factor?  The difference between your band and bust!  A four-inch difference regardless of your band and bust will always be a D-Cup!!

BRABAR covers the sizes of 28AA, 28A, 28B, 28C, 28D, 28DD/E, 28DDD/F, 30AA, 30A,30B, 30C, 30D, 30DD/E, 30DDD/F, 32AA, 32A, 32B, 32C, 32D, 32DD/E, 32DDD/F, 34AA,34A, 34B, 34C, 34D, 34DD/E, 34DDD/F, 36AA, 36A, 36B, 36C, 36D, 36DD/E, 36DDD/F,38AA, 38A, 38B, 38C, 38D, 38DD/E, and 38DDD/F.  The key is the Band Size in BRABAR sizing!  Think snug like a hug!

SHOP BY BAND

A great tip is to get your bra size and measurements rechecked every 6 months or every year at the very least. Another is to have at least three to four bras in rotation.

Our bodies are constantly changing and getting your measurements right is crucial to ensure you're wearing the right bra size.

But what are the signs that you need a new bra?

1. If your cups wrinkle, your cup size is too large.
2. If your cups gap, your band size is too large.
3. If your breasts spill or overflow out of the sides, your cup size is too small.
4. If your bra band rises up your back, your band is too loose/big.
5. If your bra band pinches your skin, your band is too tight/small.
6. If your bra straps pinch or dig into your skin even after adjusting them, it is a sign your band is too loose.  This also means that your straps are doing all the heavy lifting and can cause the main complaint of your straps digging into your shoulders.
7. If your bra straps fall off even after adjusting them, it means your band size is too large/big.
8. If your bra moves up whenever you raise your arms, it means your band is too loose/big.

Keep in mind that you want to be comfortable AND supportive.

Some Tips about trying on bras:

1. The band should be snug like a hug.
2. The straps shouldn't be digging into your shoulders, nor too loose.
3. Bras with removable pads--try them on both ways to see what works for you.
4. If you spill on the sides but the bra otherwise fits perfectly, go for a bra with a higher wing on the side, like the Soft Crop Bralette or the Everyday Longline Cami.

Breast shapes also factor into finding the perfect fit.

1. Asymmetrical breasts are when one breast is slightly bigger than the other.
2. Athletic breasts tend to be smaller and more muscular.  They tend to be perkier and need less support than other breast types, so keep it in mind.
3. Bell-shaped breasts tend to be heavier at the bottom as implied by the name and need more support and lift.
4. Conical-shaped breasts tend to have a cone shape and have a separation between them.
5. East-West breasts are what they are named.  East-West breasts are pointed in different directions.
6. Relaxed breasts have nipples that point downward. Relaxed breasts need full band support.
7. Round breasts tend to be full and round, so you don’t need too much padding.
8. Teardrop breasts are heavier on the bottom, but less full at the top.  You tend to want to look like you have more volume so something with good support from the band would help greatly.
