How to Find Your Correct Bra Size

You need two measurements and an understanding of cup size. Shopping by cup size alone is a no-go, because everyone's cup looks different. Shopping by band size is key to a properly fitting bra.

To find your band size, measure snugly around your ribcage with a soft measuring tape, and round to the nearest whole even number - a 27-inch underbust becomes a 28 band, a 29-inch underbust becomes a 30 band, a 31.5-inch underbust becomes a 32 band, and so on.

To find your overbust measurement for your cup size, measure the fullest part of your breasts with the same tape, and round to the nearest whole number - 31.5 inches becomes a 32-inch overbust, 33.15 inches becomes a 34-inch overbust.

With both measurements, subtract band from overbust to get your cup size. Some worked examples:

• 35-inch overbust minus a 30 band (29-inch underbust, rounded up) = 5-inch difference, a DD/E cup
• 37-inch overbust minus a 32 band (32-inch underbust, no rounding needed) = 5-inch difference, a DD/E cup
• 40-inch overbust minus a 34 band (33.5-inch underbust, rounded up) = 6-inch difference, a DDD/F cup

Each inch of difference is a cup size: A = 1 inch, B = 2 inches, C = 3 inches, D = 4 inches, DD/E = 5 inches, DDD/F = 6 inches, DDDD/G = 7 inches. With the examples above, that gives us 30DD/E, 32DD/E, and 34DDD/F.
