By: Lucy DiChristina
Every feeling you have when you wear a bra is telling you something about the fit. A properly fitting bra should feel supportive, secure, and comfortable throughout the day. If you're constantly adjusting it, pinching, slipping, or feeling discomfort, your bra is telling you something about its fit.Decoding this secret language of bras can feel difficult and really hard to get into, but BRABAR is here to diagnose and decode the secret language of bras so that putting on a bra does not come with a million questions about fit, feeling, and finding the right style for you. We have become so accustomed to bras being uncomfortable that so many of us no longer think twice when our bra is pinching and squeezing in all the wrong places. This is your sign to look at those feelings as symptoms and look to BRABAR to diagnose your bra issues
Your bra should feel like a comfortable hug that is supporting, and lifting you up to feel like the best version of yourself. We know that is easier said than done so let me explain the most common problems that women run into when it comes to finding a bra that fits right in every aspect. Remember, your band and cups work together to make a bra that actually fits you so in order for your perfect bra to exist you must diagnose problems wrong with your band and cup and acknowledge that they are dependent on each other. Just like any great fitting bra should, we will start from the bottom up working our way from band to strap armed with a prescription for every bra ailment.
Why Is My Band Too Tight?
Your band feeling too tight can be shown by the feeling of painful pressure around your ribs and seeing deep red marks on your body where your band lies. Don't worry, this is a very common issue with a very simple solution, because of the way that the retail model fits customers to bras many women struggle with wearing the wrong bra size, and in this case your band is too small.
"Your bra should feel like a comfortable hug that is supporting, and lifting you up to feel like the best version of yourself."
Why Is My Band Too Large?
Deciding if your band is too large can be difficult sometimes but the main indicators are your bra straps digging in, your band riding up in the back, and feeling like you need to hook your bra to its smallest setting. This issue can commonly work with other bra mistakes that are made when you are being measured as often you will be in a large bra band size in order to compensate for the bra cup size that you have been fitted into. This issue can also explain why you are cycling through bras so often, and why you are having shoulder pains from your breast hanging from the straps instead of actually being supported by the right size band.

Why Are My Boobs Spilling Out Of My Cups?
The main symptoms of your cups being too small are spillage over the top of your bra cups or under your underwire, and that the center connecting your two bra cups does not lay flat against your skin in between your breasts. All of these facts come together to create discomfort, reduced support, visible bulging underneath clothing, and sometimes even your band will feel tight as a way to compensate for the cups.
Why Are My Cups Gaping?
Luckily your cups being too large is one of the easiest bra problems to diagnose. If you are experiencing gaps between your breasts and your bra, bra cup fabric wrinkling, the sides of your bra not feeling secure on your body, and your cups not being able to hold their shape when you are moving then most likely your cups are too large.
Why Do My Bra Straps Keep Slipping?
Remember your body is never the issue your bra is! In this case your straps are most likely slipping because unfortunately the shape of the bra that you are wearing does not correspond to the shape of your body (specifically your shoulders). The straps of this bra could be too wide or your band size could be too large, in this case other symptoms of you band being too large will also show.
Why Are My Straps Digging Into My Shoulders?
When you are having any issues with your bra straps they are most likely being caused by issues with your bra band, so remember to not forget the whole bra even when you are diagnosing a specific issue. Luckily figuring out if your straps are digging into your shoulders is a pretty essay, your shoulders will have red marks and imprints, you will be constantly adjusting your straps, and often you will have some shoulder pains. Most people try to compensate for this issue by loosening their straps, however that is a completely understandable rookie mistake. The reason your straps are digging into your shoulders is because your bra brand is not providing enough support, so instead of your boobs being supported from the bottom up they are hanging from the support of the straps which then are forced to dig into your shoulders.
Why Is My Underwire Uncomfortable All Over?
Underwire issues are extremely common which is one of the main reasons why at BRABAR we promote underwire free bras to be more inclusive of body types and issues that can come with wearing a bra that has underwire; however, we know not everyone is willing to stray from their underwire loyalty, and that does not mean that you deserve to be poked and prodded. The most common underwire problems that women unfortunately run into are, underwire poking, underwire sitting in an uncomfortable position on your breasts, and underwire digging into your body. These issues usually all are born from wearing a bra with incorrect cup sizing, or the wrong shape bra for your body type. Remember underwire is not necessary for support and that you should feel the freedom to switch into underwire free products, but that is a story for another time

One Last Thing Before You Go
I know and I agree finding a bra that makes you feel good should not be nearly as difficult as it is. It is time to make bra shopping something to look forward to, and the pillar of that is to understand why your bra feels the way it does on your body. Learning to read the signs is the first step to finding a bra that truly fits. Your body isn't the problem—the fit is. Good luck, and remember Dr. BRABAR is here to help. You’ve got this, I promise!

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?
FAQS
A properly fitting bra band should feel snug and supportive, like a comfortable hug. It should stay level around your body without riding up in the back, and it should provide most of your bra's support. If your band is causing pain, leaving deep marks, or constantly shifting, it may be the wrong size.
Many people assume strap issues are caused by the straps themselves, but they're often a sign of a larger fit problem. Slipping straps can indicate a band that's too large or a bra shape that doesn't suit your body. Straps that dig into your shoulders often mean your band isn't providing enough support, forcing the straps to carry more weight than they should.
If your cups are too small, you may notice spillage, bulging, discomfort, or underwire sitting on breast tissue. If your cups are too large, you may see gaping, wrinkling fabric, or cups that shift when you move. A well-fitting cup should fully contain your breast tissue without gaps, bulges, or constant adjustments.
