Tales From the BRABAR Studio: The Best Teen Bras and Bralettes With Band Size 32-40

As I have serviced a fair number of people while working in the BRABAR Studio, I have seen many sizes among teens, preteens, and girls, who all have different needs for their bras and bralettes. Two Real Fittings

I have two cases to share to give examples of what works for teens with 32-38 band sizes. Both teenagers came into the shop at different times, separately.

The first teenager came in by herself with her own spending money. She measured a 32-inch rib cage, so a 32 band. Her overbust measurement was 37 inches. Subtracting the 32 band from the 37 overbust gives a 5-inch difference - a DD/E cup. She was a 32DD/E.

The second teenager came in with her mother looking for versatile, multiuse bras and bralettes. She measured a 34-inch rib cage, so a 34 band. Her overbust measurement was 40 inches. Subtracting the 34 band from the 40 overbust gives a 6-inch difference - a DDD/F cup. She was a 34DDD/F.

What I Recommended

Each teenager was given suggestions to try, not in any particular order:

Frequently Asked Questions

Do bralettes actually work for fuller busts, or just smaller ones?

They work for both - as both examples here show. A DDD/F cup can be comfortable and supported in the right bralette style, as long as the band size and construction are right for her.

How do I know if my teen needs a supportive everyday bra versus a soft bralette?

It often comes down to personal comfort more than cup size. Some fuller-busted teens prefer the structure of an everyday bra with back closure, while others find a well-made bralette just as supportive and more comfortable day to day - trying both is the best way to find out.

Does BRABAR carry bands larger than 38?

Some styles, like the Soft V Crop Bralette, have fit teens with a 40 band and a petite bust even though official sizing tops out at 36-38, thanks to the stretch in the fabric.

The Cheat Sheet

• Measure Underbust: Wrap a soft measuring tape around your body, just below your breasts. Round to the nearest even whole number for your band size.
• Measure Overbust: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your breasts. Round to the nearest whole number for your bust size.
• Calculate Cup Size: Subtract your band size from your bust size. Each inch of difference is one cup size, from A up through DDD/F.
