Band Sizes 28 and 30 are very difficult to find, especially for teen and preteen girls looking for their first selection of bras. Bras do not need to be a mystifying endeavor set out to confuse girls and women alike.

The key to finding the perfect bra for you is having the correct fit.

Bra sizes are very simple when broken down to the core elements. You need your Band Size and overbust Measurement, and once you have those, you subtract them to get your Bra Size. To get your band size, you need to measure your underbust. The underbust is where the band usually is and when you measure or get measured, the measuring tape should be snug around the ribcage. Always round to the even whole number to get your Band Size from the rib cage measurement. To get your overbust measurement, you need to measure the fullest part of the breasts, keeping the measuring tape parallel to the floor.

The difference between the Band Size and the Overbust is the constant. Each inch is a cup size: 1 inch = A-cup, 2 inches = B-cup, 3 inches = C-cup, 4 inches = D-cup, 5 inches = DD/E-cup, 6 inches = DDD/F-cup.

At the BRABAR Studio, many teens and tweens came in looking for strapless bras and everyday bralettes. A teenager brought in by her mother wanted a strapless bra, but her mother also wanted her to try the everyday options too.

I measured the teenager first before she picked out bras to try. She measured a 27-inch underbust. We round up to the nearest even whole number to get the band size. Her band size was 28. Her overbust measurement was 32 inches. We subtracted the 28 Band from the 32 Overbust to get the Cup Size. Each inch is a cup size. The difference between 32 overbust and 28 band is 4 inches. A 4-inch difference is always a consistent D-Cup. Her Bra Size was 28D.

Everyone’s cup size looks different. A 28D bra size, which is what the teenager was, looks very different than a 38D bra size because the Band Size and the Overbust Measurements are the changing factors. The difference between the Band Size and the Overbust Measurement is the constant factor. A 1-inch difference is always A-Cup, 2-inch is always B-Cup, 3-inch is always C-Cup, 4-inch is always D-Cup, 5-inch is always DD/E-Cup, and 6-inch is always DDD/F-Cup.
