Tales From BRABAR Studio: Finding the Right Strapless Option for You

Strapless bra season isn’t over yet. There is still plenty of time for weddings, parties, and many other events where you need the right strapless bras .

How should a strapless bra fit on you?

A good strapless bra will hug your ribcage snugly. It is the main principle at BRABAR that even your everyday bra , crop bra top , or halter bralette should support you from the band, not from the straps, and fit snugly around the ribcage like a good strapless bra . This is why having the proper fit is so important. You can use our handy Fit Guide and Bra Size Calculator to determine your size.

However, there are many other factors to consider when picking a strapless bra .

For instance, if you need a strapless bra underneath a form form-fitting dress, you should keep it in mind so your strapless bra doesn’t show.

If you will be more active wearing the strapless bra , then you may need to go tighter on the band.

If you need something for an all-day event, go with a strapless bra with a wide band. The wide band would provide more comfort.

Another thing to consider is the fabric. The fabric should not be slippery or silky for a strapless bra ! That would be a disaster in the making so make sure when you’re buying a strapless bra that it has a non-slippery or silky fabric.

But how should you find your bra size for the perfect fitting strapless bra ?

The simple breakdown of how to find your bra size is this:

YOUR OVERBUST MEASUREMENT - YOUR BAND SIZE = YOUR CUP SIZE

The best way to start to find your bra size is to find your Band Size. Your Band Size is determined by measuring your ribcage with soft measuring tape. Place the measuring tape around your ribcage or underbust where the band of the bra lands on your body and parallel to the floor. You must have the measuring tape snug around your ribcage. Round to the nearest WHOLE EVEN number for your Band Size.

Once you have your Band Size, you need the second measurement to calculate your Cup Size. The second measurement is the Overbust measurement. The Overbust measurement is determined by measuring the fullest part of your breast. The measuring tape should be parallel to the floor. You do not need to hold the measuring tape snug here. You want a slight amount of slack. You round to the nearest WHOLE number for your Overbust measurement.

With the two measurements in hand, all you have to do is subtract the two measurements. The difference between your Band Size and your Overbust measurement is the Cup Size. For your Cup Size, every inch is a Cup Size.

A one-inch (1) difference is an A-Cup.

A two-inch (2) difference is a B-Cup.

A three-inch (3) difference is a C-Cup.

A four-inch (4) difference is a D-Cup.

A five-inch (5) difference is a DD-Cup or an E-Cup. In US Bra Sizing, a DD-Cup and an E-Cup are the same, just a different way of saying it.

A six-inch (6) difference is a DDD-Cup or a F-Cup. In US Bra Sizing, a DDD-Cup and an F-Cup are the same as the above one.

Or simply,

A cup = 1 inch

B cup = 2 inches

C cup = 3 inches

D cup = 4 inches

DD cup/E cup = 5 inches

DDD cup/F cup = 6 inches

Your Band Size plus your Cup Size is your Bra Size.

I will give you an example of a teenager measured in the BRABAR Studio. Her underbust measurement was 27 inches. Since you round to the nearest whole even number, her Band Size was 28 Band ! Her overbust measurement was 32 inches. To get her Cup Size, we subtract the 28 Band from the 32-inch overbust to get a difference of four inches. With each inch being a cup size, 4 inches is a D-Cup. So, her Bra Size was 28D . And yes, she got a Soft Strapless Bra Top after she was measured properly by the fit experts. It is a great teenage bralette for multi-use.

With all the information in hand, what are the options at BRABAR for teenagers, young adults, and adults with petite ribcages and full busts ?
